Think they`re going to say no!
when i had my third i was under gp care and they were all up for me having a homebirth and i had one and it was fantastic. then when i fell pg with my 4th 4 years later because of all this crap about high bmi mums being a risk i was put under consultant care and the first words out the their mouth when i said i wanted a homebirth was 'dont be stupid' Grrrrr even now it makes me mad.
they tried everything to get me to go to hospital the heavy mum card was played and then the pph risk being a 4th time mum was played, then when i started to measure large they played the shoulder dystocia card (my hb was a 9lb4 baby and she was my easiest). everything they threw at me i knocked them back.
then they started saying baby was at least 9lb at 36 weeks and i started to worry i had several people looking at me and they all agreed baby was huge which had me concerned as my last homebirth was 10 days overdue and i have a habit of going overdue so they were looking at a 12lb delievery at term +whatever baby gained as i went overdue and in the end they offered to induce a week early as i argued with them that if baby was the size they reckoned why would they be happy to let me go up to 10 days overdue again and risk problems in a hospital birth? i also told them i would be staying at home if i went into labour before induction at 10 days overdue. she was only 8lb3 in the end i felt awful for caving in but she was born fine and that was the main thing.
this time around in am prepared i only lost 5ml of blood in my birth with her so i think pph risk is small, and mw who is being really supportive this time around has said they cant use the large baby thing as even if i measure large i am now known in 3 pregnancies to carry a lot of water so they have to take that into account. i was a nervous wreck last time around as i had had a mc just before falling pg and they seemed to play on that to get things their way im more prepared this time around.
stand your ground and as said do your research make them aware you are fully aware of the risks and also of the solutions to any problems that may occur.
good luck

Yes ive got really bad spd and they tried to say no, however its not actually up to THEM so im having her at home!!!! You sound so brave and strong just ignore them they dont know whats best for you and your baby you do! Listen to your heart. (Saying that if they were actually very concerned for a reason i agreed with after researching myself i would listen hehe) I just think they do whats best for the hospital policies and "How not to get sued" Thanks, rant over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had my son in hospital after a 42hr labour, he was delivered by forceps and i had third degree tear with pph of over 800ml. Due to further probs was advised next baby to have c sec. Anyway am pregnant again (33wks) and after standing my ground and making medical profession realise i do know risks I have been allowed a home birth so stick to your guns as it is an option.
Hi hun
I to had a nightmare delivery 1st time but different to yours
I had a hospital water birth but due to my son being 2 weeks overdue and coming out with his arm wraped round the front of his neck and his elbow being at the front then my contractions stopping once he had crowned and he was a very healthy 9lbs which coming from someone as tiny as me was huge lol. The mws had to stand me up and then just pull him out and i ended up being torn to bits down below sorry to be gross. I had to go to theatre and have a spinal to numb me so they could stitch my 3rd degree tear. i was there for 2 hrs. Finally i was on the ward but had problems weeing and had to have my bladder drained off of almost 2 ltrs of water. the nurses said this was prob caused by my wee tube being squished during delivery. However i still couldnt pass water 3 weeks later and had been on and off a cathater all this time which had made me get infections and caused so much pain. I eventually refused to have it back in against the docvs orders. i eventually healed up but my bladder still caused big problems and resulted in me being in hospital a few times to be drained off again.
Well i eventually got preg again and this time vowed to have hb.
Mw was supportive and said she would review it closer to the time and decide
however this was only brought up about 4 weeks before my due date and i had to argue with my consultan t over it and i stuck to my guns as was told they couldnt refuse me hb.
I eventuall had my son on the 27.1.07 and after only 3 hours in labour delivered him with no pain relief and only a small cut and not a bladder problem in sight.
I was willing to go to hospital if nessescary and knew i was at more risk of being transfered and in the end i was right to stick to my guns. I think its all about instinct and following what you bvelieve is right for you hun.
i hope this has helped in some way.

Thanks so much for replying. Yes, you're right it's up to me in the end isn't it?!
I've only just got my positive test - think i'll be due around 3 December. My midwife was great last time - she wasn't especially pro or anti HB. She just thought that some women were more suitable to give it a go than others. Once she got to know me she thought I was a good candidate to have a crack at it. I've just arranging my booking in apointment two weeks today. Thanks so much for you advice - i'm going to say right from the start that I want to give another HB a go.
Helen
hey hunno where near like ur situation but i went into labour at 35 weeks with dd.
i demanded a hb from 36 weeks and im DIO so demanding a hb from 36 weeks again.
at teh end of the day they cannot refuse u a hb so if u want it go 4 it... all their job is is to make u aware of teh risks... so look at the situation, c how u feel and if u feel its worht the risk go 4 it
with dd i decided teh risks of having her at home from 36 weeks instead of 37 weeks were minimal.
also if u try n talk 2 a consultant who is pro hb and you know ur facts u will find them a lot more confident with u having a hb.
hth hun n good luck!

ps when u due?
