Made to feel wrong for bf my 8 month dd
Im so sorry to hear about your loss, and fuming on your behalf!!!
My dd is 8 months and we are still bf. I have no intention of stopping until she is ready. Ive been quite lucky in that all the health professionals ive seen, including her paediatrician, have been very supportive, although they all ask me how much milk she is having, in oz, and seem surprised when i tell them she doesnt have formula lol! I`m also lucky that she is still a tiddler so people assume she is much younger, so ive not had any negative comments (apart from my dad who asked if i intended to be like an African woman and take her to worked strapped to me so i could feed her until she was 5 . Hes not racist, he was based in Kenya so its an example he is familiar with).
I would complain hon, or like someone else said, go to the papers. Its disgusting that people who should know exactly what best for babies continiue to promote the unhealthier option They probably subscribe to playboy and think that boobs are meant as sex toys, not feeding machines
P.s. forgot to add, sorry to hear about your eptopic pregnency, must of been awful for you both, but especially you. It's just i get so annoyed whenpeople are judging you for doing something so natural!!
Finfishie - unless situation has changed in last 2 years (not had recurrence to need to seek advice again lol) - Benadryl was said to be ok by NCT according to loads of people on here, went to my GP after developed hayfever for first time (already had asthma & ezcema) when my first was a few months old, and GP spent ages checking the BF appendix and the antihistamine section of BNF and found that Benadryl was only one whose manufacturers didn't say "do not give if bf" so we agreed that he'd prescribe that one, and not seen any ill-effects on DS
All i can say is ahhhhhhhhhh, and omg!!!
I'm still bf at 20 months, and so what, these health proff lot get me so angry!!
I am shocked! You would think that with all the health professionals saying that breastfeeding is the best thing for your baby that you would be praised for carrying on so long. When DS1 was 13 months he was ill and didn't eat for over a week but was still having breastmilk and the doctor thought that was fantastic and told me to stick with it as long as I could. Without the breastmilk he would have had to take supplements and probably would have lost alot of weight. At 8 months they're not allowed cows milk so what do these people think babies were drinking before formula was around? Somebody asked me last week if I was still breastfeeding DS2 and when I said yes she was shocked and said well done for carrying on so long....he's only 12 weeks! xx
I can't comment on if you can take piriton when bf but my lo was prescribed it a few weeks ago at 6.5mnths when she had an allergic reaction. hth
